VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – A sailboat that was on sale for $1 on Craigslist has been removed from New Smyrna Beach after the beached boat was turned over to the county.

A county spokesman confirmed to News 6 that the boat was removed Monday morning. Video shows the boat appeared to have been removed in pieces with construction equipment.

The sailboat was beached near the 12th Avenue beach access on Dec. 22. The owner said he was trying to take it down to the Dominican Republic from Saint Augustine, but rough seas pushed it onto the beach.

However, to remove the boat, the owner would have had to pay at least $20,000.

So he put the boat up on Craigslist and Facebook Marketplace for $1, hoping to find someone who could pay to remove it and fix any damage.

In the end, he took the listing down and turned the boat over to the county.
