13-year-old girl missing out of Satellite Beach found safe; teen friend arrested

15-year-old faces charge of harboring missing runaway

SATELLITE BEACH, Fla. – A teenager was arrested after a missing 13-year-old girl out of Satellite Beach was found at a home in Melbourne, according to the police department.

Avery Monroe Rice was last seen around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Atlantic Plaza along Jimmy Buffett Memorial Highway (A1A), the Satellite Beach Police Department said.

Police said officers found the girl Sunday at her friend’s home in Melbourne.

“From the onset of this case, it was widely known by a number of friends and classmates that Rice had made the decision to not return home, and law enforcement believed she was staying with various friends,” the department said in an update Monday.

A 15-year-old was taken into custody and faces a charge of harboring a missing/runaway juvenile.

An investigation is ongoing to determine if there will be more charges against others for knowingly housing a runaway, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to call 321-773-440 ext. 474 or Crimeline at 800-423-8477.
