SUMER COUNTY, Fla. – Drivers traveling through Sumter County faced delays Monday morning as the northbound lanes of Interstate 75 and County Road 475 overpass were temporarily closed due to a bridge hit, the Florida Department of Transportation said.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a dump truck driven by a 56-year-old Ocala man was traveling northbound on I-75 near mile marker 333 around 1:30 a.m. when he inadvertently left the dump bed in the raised position while passing under the C.R. 475 overpass, hitting the bridge.

The bridge strike caused the bed to shear off and become lodged under the overpass while the truck itself landed just north of the crash site, troopers say.

No injuries were reported. FDOT engineers arrived to inspect the overpass and the highway was cleared just after 8 a.m..

The shoulder of C.R. 475 remains closed, but both lanes on the overpass are open.
