Election officials in Central Florida are making final preparations as early voting begins Saturday for the special election in Congressional District 6, which will determine who replaces Mike Waltz in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Voters in Volusia, Flagler, Lake, and Marion Counties will cast their ballots to fill the seat left vacant after Waltz stepped down to serve as former President Donald Trump’s national security advisor.
The race features Republican State Sen. Randy Fine and Democratic educator Josh Weil, who each won their party’s primary earlier this month. The winner of the April 1 special election will head to Washington.
Not all voters in these four counties are eligible to participate. Volusia County Supervisor of Elections Lisa Lewis urges residents to check their eligibility before heading to the polls.
Voters can visit their county’s elections website to use an interactive map and enter their address to confirm if they are eligible to vote.
As election officials prepare for early voting, they are also monitoring proposed changes to Florida’s election laws, including a measure that would require audits of all election results.
Lewis says Volusia County already conducts full audits using the Clear Ballot system.
Early voting begins Saturday and runs daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. leading up to Election Day on April 1.
Voters should check their county’s elections website for polling locations and precinct details. Officials recommend arriving early to avoid long lines.
