Driver confessed to being ‘so high’ in Palm Bay crash where he tried to flee, police say

Mirandio Hamilton, 23, arrested

PALM BAY, Fla. – A man accused of running a red light, crashing into another vehicle, and then trying to flee told officers he was high as they arrested him, Palm Bay police said.

Mirandio Hamilton, 23, was arrested last Wednesday after the arresting police officer said they saw Hamilton’s vehicle run the red light in the area of Jupiter Boulevard SW and Minton Road SW, T-boning another vehicle going through the intersection.

According to the arrest affidavit, the officer pursued Hamilton’s vehicle as it fled the intersection. Police say Hamilton surrendered shortly after. Video of the arrest was posted on Facebook.

After being read his Miranda rights, the officer says Hamilton began saying repeatedly that he was “so high.”

He told the officer that he had consumed a THC vape pen someone had given him, and he felt the effects as he was driving. The officer said he administered a one-legged stand test, but Hamilton had to stop because he said he was too high to perform it.

Hamilton is facing charges of DUI with property damage and leaving a crash with property damage without giving info.
