ORLANDO, Fla. – Florida’s average gas price has fallen below $3 per gallon for the first time in more than a year.

As of Sunday, the state average stood at $2.97 per gallon, which is 2 cents lower than the 2024 low and the lowest daily average since December 2023, according to AAA.

This recent drop reflects a decrease of 13 cents from the previous week, 13 cents from a month ago, and a notable 55 cents compared to this time last year.

For those filling up a 15-gallon gas tank, the average cost is now $44.55, which is $8.25 less than what drivers were paying a year ago.

“Low oil prices and strong gasoline production numbers have helped push gas prices to lows not seen in more than a year,” Mark Jenkins, spokesman for AAA - The Auto Club Group, said in a release. “However, it’s not clear how much lower prices will go. Springtime factors like refinery maintenance, strong demand, and the switch to summer gasoline typically keep upward pressure on prices at the pump.”

Currently, more than 70% of Florida filling stations are selling gasoline for less than $3 per gallon. The lowest 10% of gas prices are averaging $2.76 per gallon, while the highest 10% are averaging $3.35 per gallon.

Florida’s average is nearly 20 cents below the national average.
