Local stores prepare for impact as Trump imposes hefty tariffs on Chinese imports

Tariffs will affect large and small grocery stores

ORLANDO, Fla. – Grocery shopping is about to become an adventure, and not a pleasant one.

Many products we use, especially the inexpensive ones, are made in China.

On Wednesday, President Trump announced a 125% tariff on that country while pausing for all others.

From chain stores like Walmart to small local stores, to customers, everyone is bracing for the pain.

Apna Bazaar Grocery store on Orange Blossom Trail is a local family-owned store that has been there for over 25 years.

They specialize in international as well as American food and products, but like most places, their customers buy a lot of items from China.

News 6 was there when the announcement was made that the tariffs were being suspended.

Apna Bazaar owner Raheel Razzaz told News 6, “It’s a business, we have very small margins and we will have to hike up the prices, and as much as we hate to do it, and pass it on to the customer, that’s just the name of the game and prices will go up.”

It’s too soon to tell how high these prices will go, but experts say to stock up if you can.
