On Sunday morning, the sheriff’s office posted a video of the incident on social media, showing the scene along the highway.

According to deputies, a Volusia County sergeant and trooper were on the scene of a crash between a car and a deer, which is when an SUV drove off I-95 and “just about ran them over.”

“The SUV hit the (deputy’s) patrol vehicle, smashed into the back of the car that hit the deer, and then spun back onto I-95, where it came to a rest,” deputies wrote.

The video shows the SUV as it nearly swipes the trooper and deputy, careening along the side of the highway.

“Jesus Christ!” the deputy can be heard saying.

The deputy can then be seen walking up to the SUV, where he speaks to a man inside the vehicle.

“You guys OK?” the man asks.

“Yeah, almost not-OK,” the deputy responds.

The man says he may have suffered whiplash, though the deputy replies by saying, “My life flashed before my damn eyes right there.”

That video then cuts to the deputy discussing what happened with first responders who showed up to the scene.

“If those rumble strips weren’t there, I would have been dead,” the deputy says. “Because the only way we would’ve realized... We heard the ‘Bzzt,’ and we were like, ‘Oh, (expletive).‘”

On Sunday, the sheriff’s office urged members of the public to stay alert for emergency lights and move over for first responders, service vehicles, and disabled cars along the side of the road.

“This was a split second away from tragedy,” deputies wrote.

No additional information has been provided about the crash at this time.
