Law enforcement searching for Gainesville homicide suspect in Volusia County

Xavion Perry III was spotted in Daytona Beach

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Authorities in Volusia County are searching for a homicide suspect out of Gainesville.

The sheriff’s office and Daytona Beach police are looking for Xavion Perry III, who is described as a Black male standing 6 feet, 1 inch tall. He was last seen wearing all black clothing, white socks, and white sneakers.

Authorities consider him dangerous.

According to Daytona Beach Police Chief Jakari Young, just before 10 p.m., authorities in Alachua County responded to a shots-fired call and discovered a victim who had been killed. Perry was later identified as the suspect.

At 11:30 p.m., Daytona Beach police were alerted through technology that Perry was in the area and attempted a traffic stop. Perry fled, prompting a pursuit.

According to Young, Perry stopped at the Main Street beach approach, jumped from the vehicle, ran to the Main Street Pier, and then jumped from the pier onto the beach below. The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office joined the search shortly after.

Young said Perry was also seen streaming live on Facebook during the incident and made suicidal statements during that broadcast.

Young added that while it is possible Perry is no longer in the area, authorities are treating the search as though he is still present.

Authorities have not yet recovered Perry’s firearm.

Anyone who sees Perry is urged to call 911 immediately. Do not approach him.
