MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis held a news conference Wednesday afternoon near Miami to announce lower premiums for customers of some homeowners and car insurance providers, expected during 2025.
Speaking at Florida International University’s Wall of Wind, DeSantis said 73% of Citizens customers living in Miami-Dade County could expect an average premium decrease of 6.3%, adding homeowners in Broward County would receive a decrease of 4.5% and that there could be more to come statewide.
“Overall, statewide, most of the decreases are concentrated in South Florida, but overall a decrease will be merited for over 20% of Citizens policy holders statewide. So we appreciate Citizens doing that,” DeSantis said.
Statewide, the governor said Floridians would see the following premium decreases in auto insurance during the year:
- Geico, down 10.5%
- Progressive, down 8.1%
- State Farm, down 6%
