Troopers say they found truck involved in fatal hit-and-run crash with cyclist

Officials say victim wasn't discovered until 45 minutes after crash

FHP troopers say this Chevy pickup was involved in a fatal hit-and-run crash on Sunday, Dec. 2, 2018.

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol said they have found the truck  involved in a crash Sunday morning that killed a cyclist, however they are still searching for the driver.

The truck was traveling south on Claracona Road near Gilliam Road in Orange County at 2:30 a.m. when, officials said, it struck the cyclist, a 57-year-old man, from behind and propelled him into a ditch.

Troopers said the vehicle fled the crash site. The victim was found at 3:15 a.m. and pronounced dead at the scene, according to the crash report. The report states a neighbor told authorities he heard a crash around 2:30 a.m. but was not able to locate the victim at the time.

Authorities said the right side mirror housing of the truck was left at the scene. After receiving a tip, troopers found the 2005 Chevy pickup truck involved in the crash at a home in Orange County. The truck has damage consistent with the crash and was missing the right-side mirror, according to the FHP.

The registered owner declined to provide a statement to the FHP.
