ORLANDO, Fla. – Local 6 has learned that an apartment complex located across the street from the University of Central Florida has implemented a new check-in policy at its garage after a student was attacked and robbed.
The new policy affects Phases I and II at The Marquee, formerly known as Sterling Central apartments, where a courtesy officer will man a checkpoint to ensure that all residents have their key fob and ID.
The new policy was stated in an email sent to residents Wednesday night. On Thursday morning, however, no courtesy officer could be found at the complex.
Kandakar Ahsan, 19, spoke with Local 6 after he was discharged from a hospital following an attack that left his jaw wired shut. He said two men jumped him inside The Marquee parking garage, punching him the face twice before stealing $5 from him.
It's the third robbery deputies have investigated at the complex since October.
After the latest attack, Marquee managers tried to deny the robbery, chalking it up to a fight until they realized that Orange County deputies were looking into the incident.
"This is has happened way too many times in the last month alone. I feel like people who want to rob someone automatically come to Sterling because it's so easy," Ahsan said.
