30 injured when Boeing airplane encounters severe turbulence

Passengers on Air Europa flight hit ceiling, witnesses say

More than two dozen passengers on a Boeing aircraft were injured Monday when the flight hit severe turbulence.

Officials said the turbulence happened onboard an Air Europa flight that was flying from Madrid to Uruguay.

Those on board said the plane went into a dive, causing those who weren’t buckled in to go up in the air and hit the ceiling of the plane.

Witnesses said most of the victims suffered injuries to their arms, faces and legs.

The intense shaking forced pilots of the Boeing Dreamliner to make an emergency landing in Brazil.

The incident comes as the U.S. Justice Department is pushing Boeing to plead guilty to criminal fraud in connection with two deadly plane crashes involving its 737 Max jetliners.

Relatives of some of the 346 people who died in the October 2018 and March 2019 crashes are furious about the plea offer, which Justice Department prosecutors spelled out in an online meeting with the families and their lawyers on Sunday.
