Let’s take a look at what’s happening in Central Florida’s theatre and art world.
👵 Your favorite nanny is in town!
The movie first made famous by Robin Williams in 1993 is now a musical. “Mrs. Doubtfire” follows the story of Daniel Hillard, a struggling and out-of-work actor. He loses custody of his kids during a messy divorce and creates the character of a Scottish nanny, Euphegenia Doubtfire, in an attempt to stay in their lives. I had a chance to check out opening night of the show at the Dr. Phillips Center on Tuesday, and then on Wednesday, I got to speak with two actors from the ensemble! The show wraps up this weekend. I posted the interview and ticket information here.
🏙 Downtown Orlando’s skyline is about to change
Earlier this week, Orlando city leaders officially approved the new sports and entertainment district that will go downtown. It will be located right across from the Kia Center. It’s expected to include a live entertainment venue, a hotel, an apartment complex, restaurants, shopping and so much more. Construction is set to start later this year and be completed by 2027. Digital journalist Jacob Langston, posted all the details here.
🎨 There’s an art festival in downtown Sanford this weekend
You can expect to see around 55,000 people in downtown Sanford tomorrow and Sunday for the 13th annual St. Johns River Festival of the Arts. The free festival will have over 150 art exhibitors set up along the river and Lake Monroe. Digital journalist Brenda Argueta, posted everything you need to know.

They also have special outings. Click here to learn more about their programs.
➡ A survivalist from the TV show, Naked and Afraid, came to our station!
Picture this: It’s Sunday night and I’m watching the first episode of the newest season of “Naked and Afraid” with my mom and husband. Michelle Armogida introduces herself and says she’s from Mims in Brevard County. She ends up surviving three weeks in the African wilderness with her show partner. During the episode, she faces several challenges where she could’ve easily given up, but she didn’t. Of course, I knew I had to reach out to her and see if she would come in and be on our podcast, Florida’s Fourth Estate! I loved her episode with our anchors, Ginger Gadsden and Matt Austin. Take a listen to all the behind-the-scenes moments our producer, Tiffany Browne, put together here. She even shares a great story about the earrings she’s wearing in the picture above.
