Tropical trouble 🌀
Hey insiders its meteorologist Candace Campos, it wouldn’t be the first day of August if we weren’t talking about heat advisories, afternoon storms and tropical waves! And today, we’ve got all three to talk about! We officially now have a system designated by the National Hurricane Center as Invest 97L.
This means the iconic spaghetti plots will become available to forecasters along with Hurricane Hunters back on routine missions into the system. Click here to read more about “Invest”.
But the big questions are how and when this system will impact Central Florida. Although the forecast is still a bit uncertain, here is what we know so far.
Forecasts will keep evolve over the next several days, so make sure you are staying updated with News6 as we head into the weekend.
Tropical activity picks up as August arrives 🌊
August is here! Hi everyone, this is meteorologist Michelle Morgan. We’re halfway through the year, but August also signals the beginning of the busy part of hurricane season, which peaks around September 10th.

Tropical terms to know
During hurricane season, meteorologists use a range of specialized terms to describe different aspects of storms, such as the cone of uncertainty, right-front quadrant, subtropical, and eye-wall, etc.
These terms can seem confusing if you’re not familiar with them. Each term provides valuable information about the storm’s behavior and potential impact. But what do they all mean???
Hi everyone, meteorologist Jonathan Kegges here breaking it all down for you!
Post-storm hazards: What to watch for?
As the winds calm and the rain eases, it’s natural to feel a sense of relief and assume the worst is over. However, experts caution that the aftermath of a storm can present dangers that are just as significant as the storm itself.
Hi there, meteorologist Samara Cokinos here talking about post-storm hazards.
The risks can include ongoing flooding, power outages, and structural damage, all of which can pose serious hazards to safety and recovery. Being aware of these potential dangers and taking appropriate precautions is crucial to navigating the post-storm period safely and effectively. Click here to read more about it.
