A way too early look at 2025 hurricane season
Thank you so much for checking out our latest newsletter! I’m News 6 meteorologist David Nazario and for this week, we’re taking a WAY too early look into what could possibly unfold for next hurricane season.
Yes, I am very well aware 2024’s season just closed out only a week ago, but there’s a method to my madness I assure you!
We meteorologists have a plethora of tools at our disposal, a lot of the computer models, graphics and charts you’ve probably seen on TV or on your favorite social media pages, live streams, videos, you name it! Some of these tools include climate models that can actually see out as far as next hurricane season.
So naturally, because I love a good challenge, I decide to take a look and see what it is I can pull this far out in time to theorize on and do some background homework for you lovely viewers before the next season is knocking on our door.
Without getting too heavy with the information in such short a segment, there are already a few different variables that jump out at me. The Atlantic heat looks to focus on the subtropics, the direct central Atlantic which could have implications on our steering pattern. We’re also expected to jump right back out of this weak La Niña into a neutral ENSO phase in the Pacific, which could replicate a few of the things we saw this previous hurricane season. Lastly, month-to-month rainfall anomalies (where we could see above or below average rain/storminess) seem to focus on Florida, and the east coast of the U.S. during some of the peak months.
If you’d like to take a bit more of an early deep dive, click HERE to check out my full story written on the topic.
You can also anticipate more month-to-month pre season tropical updates to roll out on the News 6 app, the News 6 and Just Weather YouTube channels as well. Feel free to follow me on social media as well, @Wxcenter_Nazario for more frequent updates in between my time spent in the studio. Thanks for looking!
