Afternoon highs could soar into the upper 80s, maybe even tying or breaking records from 2020! And get this — if Orlando hits 90, it will be the earliest 90-degree day on record, EVER! Crazy, right?
A stronger cold front is rolling in on Sunday, and it could bring some storms. It’s Daytona 500 weekend, so we might see a little wet weather for race day.

The Gulf of Mexico is HOT - LITERALLY! 🔥

Welcome back to your Pinpoint Newsletter everyone! This is digital meteorologist David Nazario back again to talk some very hot water just off to our west.
Before we get into the details, I will say “hot” is a relative term. If you look at our temperature anomaly chart above, the elephant in the room comes in the form of that enormous and deep shade of red centerstage. Would you believe if I told you those same temperatures could actually produce tropical cyclones if it were the correct time of year?
Oh yeah! There are actually temperatures around 80 degrees Fahrenheit in the central and northern portions of the Gulf. Of course, there’s dry air, wind shear, sinking air, so we won’t see any named storms in February... but needless to say there could be consequences to all this building warmth if winter doesn’t bring that hot dome down over the next few weeks.
You can read all about the ocean-atmosphere connection HERE if you’re looking for more information, and how these warmer waters actually influence our weather locally every day from start to finish.
