Voters in Maitland on Tuesday approved plans to issue bonds to finance a new public library, and make improvements to Quinn Strong Park. Read the ballot language on the Maitland website.
The bond initiative was approved with 61.72% of the votes, versus 38.28% against.
Meanwhile, only one person qualified to run for the mayoral race in Maitland: John P. Lowndes. The city says Lowndes is therefore elected without opposition. He’ll take the oath of office on May 13.

Shall the City issue bonds to finance the construction and equipping of a new public library and improving its location at Quinn Strong Park in the principal amount not to exceed $14,000,000, bearing interest not exceeding the legal rate, maturing not later than thirty (30) years from the date of issuance, payable from ad valorem taxes to be levied in the City on all taxable property?
