Mercado and Pribell are both Democrats and their race would have appeared on the ballot for the Aug. 20 election as a universal primary, open to all voters.

Mercado was first elected property appraiser in 2020, so this will be her second term in office. Before that, she was a state representative in the Florida House.

The Orange County Property Appraiser’s office monitors and values all property in the county for tax purposes. The office’s duties include tracking ownership changes, maintaining maps of properties, handling tax exemptions and assessing property values.

News 6 reached out to Pribell Tuesday night regarding his decision to withdraw. He said he did not have a comment at this time.

We also waiting to hear back from Mercado on her reelection.
