Learn how to register to vote, get election questions answered. News 6 hosts phone bank

Florida holds primary on Aug. 20

ORLANDO, Fla. – News 6 on Tuesday will team up with election volunteers to help you get prepared for the upcoming August primary during this big election year.

News 6 is joining Central Florida’s elections supervisors to ensure you are registered to vote and that your information is up to date. The deadline to register to vote for the Aug. 20 primary is July 22, which is also the last day you can change your party affiliation, if you wish.

On Tuesday, July 16, News 6 will host a Voter Registration Phone Bank from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. Volunteers from county supervisors of elections offices throughout the Central Florida area will answer the phones -- and your questions.

The phone number is 888-436-6665.

“We have some deadlines that are approaching rather quickly. The 22nd of July is the first one that is your deadline to either register to vote if you haven’t already or if you want to declare for party because we are closed primary state,” said Christopher Heath, spokesman for the Orange County Supervisor of Elections.

Heath said there are three primary ways to vote by mail.

“We’ve already started printing out those ballots and in fact, a couple of weeks ago, we mailed out the ones to people who live overseas as well as our military ballots. And these all went out already. The rest of the vote by mail seemed to start going out this week,” he said. “... Then we have early voting and we’re proud to offer more early voting sites about two brand new ones. One downtown by Camping World Stadium, one in Eatonville. Early voting is great. You can show at any early voting site. Doesn’t matter where you live in Orange County, and you can vote. So you just at the nearest one you can find.”

Heath said early voting for the Primary Election in Orange County starts Aug. 5 and runs through Aug. 18.
