ORLANDO, Fla. – Seth Hyman, the Orlando attorney who won the August Republican primary in the Ninth Judicial Circuit state attorney race, is dropping out, which means the November election will solely be between current State Attorney Andrew Bain and suspended State Attorney Monique Worrell.

News 6 obtained Hyman’s withdrawal letter to the Florida Division of Elections on Wednesday, asking that his candidacy be withdrawn and his name removed from the ballot.

Hyman is dropping out after winning the Republican primary against attorney Thomas Feiter, 62% to 38%. A spokesperson for the Orange County supervisor of elections office says that since the results of the August primary have been certified, there’s no way to let Feiter run in Hyman’s place now.

In a statement to News 6, Hyman explained that he didn’t want the anti-Worrell vote to be split.

I am a practical and pragmatic person, and I know that to win a general election of this size, it takes a considerable amount of financial resources. I am incredibly appreciative to the 155 individuals who have contributed to my campaign, however, both Monique Worrell and Andrew Bain have access to resources that far exceed what are available to me at this point. In order to give this community the best chance of not seeing a second term for Monique Worrell, I have decided to withdraw from the State Attorney’s race and will not appear on the General Election ballot. I do not want the anti-Worrell vote to be split, and I am willing to make this major sacrifice to further that purpose. I am hereby formally giving my backing, support and endorsement to State Attorney Andrew Bain and strongly encourage everyone to vote for Andrew Bain on November 5, 2024.

Seth Hyman, Attorney

Hyman would have been the Republican nominee in the three-way race against Monique Worrell, the Democratic candidate. She was elected state attorney in 2021, but last year she was suspended from office by Gov. Ron DeSantis, who accused her of not following state law in prosecuting offenders. Worrell has denied the charge and fought the suspension in court.

The third candidate in the race is Worrell’s DeSantis-appointed replacement, State Attorney Andrew Bain, who is registered as a no-party-affiliate voter.

We have reached out to Hyman regarding his withdrawal and are waiting to hear back.

This is a developing story, check back for updates.
