Candidates make final push in Central Florida as Election Day closes in

‘Souls to the Polls’ event held in Eatonville

EATONVILLE, Fla. – With less than two weeks until election day, candidates are making a final push for votes across the state this weekend.

Sen. Rick Scott was in Jacksonville campaigning with Wyoming Sen. John Barrasso while his opponent, Debbie Mucarsel-Powell, was in Eatonville on Saturday for a “Souls to the Polls” event.

Two more candidates were also in Eatonville over the weekend, current Orange-Osceola State Attorney Andrew Bain and his opponent in the high profile race, former Orange-Osceola State Attorney Monique Worrell.

“Your local representatives, they have the most impact on your lives,” Bain said. “You make sure and go out and cast that ballot because they’re the ones that determine your quality of life of what you deal with every single day so if you have an issue and you have somebody that you need to call, you need to be able to reach out to that person and know who they are and go vote and make sure that you have the right person in the seat.”

Bain is hoping to hold onto his position, while Worrell hopes to get the job back after Gov. Ron DeSantis removed the former top prosecutor from office earlier this year.

“This is a consequential election,” Worrell said. “I know that we say that all the time, but this time, more than any other time, there are whole segments of our community who are going to be disenfranchised if we do not get up and stand up for our democracy.”

U.S. Senate Candidate Debbie Mucarsel-Powell was also in Eatonville over the weekend. She’s running against Sen. Rick Scott for his senate seat and is asking voters to put partisan politics aside for this election.

“Think of the issues,” Mucarsel-Powell said. “Who’s going to work on your issues? And that’s a way to unite our state and to come together. We have to remember who we are in the United States of America, a place where someone like myself who came with nothing, with my mom. I started working at a minimum wage job and here I am as a nominee for the United States Senate.”

Sen. Rick Scott was in Jacksonville over the weekend, going door to door with Wyoming Sen. John Barrasso to encourage people to vote.

Scott’s campaign sent out the following statement:

Floridians are making their voices heard at the ballot box during early voting, but we can’t afford to take our foot off the gas for a single minute. I’m incredibly grateful to have Senator John Barrasso here on the campaign trail with me, helping continue to get out the vote and going door-to-door with me and Ann to make sure every goes to vote. We’ve got 10 days left, let’s get out there and make it happen!
