Early voting ends this weekend in Central Florida. How to check polling place wait times

Record lines seen at polling places across the state

ORLANDO, Fla. – If it seems like there are longer lines at early voter polling stations, it’s not your imagination. Central Floridians are setting record numbers for voting early, and that should continue heading into the final weekend before the election.

On Friday, Lake County surpassed 100,000 residents voting early breaking the record for early voting turnout set in 2020 of 91,209.

Lake County Supervisor of Elections Alan Hays says it’s been steady at all locations, averaging about 8,500 voters per day.

Hays thinks people are concerned about more than just the presidential race.

“We have these six constitutional amendments, that also makes people come out and vote and two of those are particularly contentious,” Hays said. “And then here in Lake County, we have a property appraiser’s race with a very serious write-in candidate, so there is just a lot of things going into the mix to bring out all the people.”

Early voting in Lake County ends Saturday. You can check wait times for early voting locations on the supervisor of elections website.

In Orange County, lines have been long even after the county expanded some locations. The supervisor of elections office has an interactive map on its website that shows wait times.

“We have had over 350,000 people cast their ballot...This is an historic election. People want their voice to be heard,” said Supervisor of Elections Glen Gilzean.

Early voting ends Sunday in Orange County. Be sure to check the supervisor of elections website for wait time at early voting locations before you go.

If you are still planning to vote by mail, officials recommend bringing your ballot either to the county elections office, or taking it to an early voting site. They say if you mail it out at this point, it may not get to the supervisor of elections office by Tuesday at 7 p.m.
