ORLANDO, Fla. – Baseball runs in the family of this week’s Sonic Prep Player of the Week.
Austin Pierzynski is a catcher at The First Academy. If the last name “Pierzynski” sounds familiar, it’s because Austin is taking up after his dad, A.J. Pierzynski. He was a MLB catcher for 19 seasons.
Only a sophomore, Austin Pierzynski is looking to create his own legacy at The First Academy. The team is currently 19-1 on the season. Austin Pierzynski is batting close to .300 this season. He can always talk baseball to his dad, who is also an assistant coach for the team.

“At times, it’s a little bit hard obviously balancing being a dad and being a coach,” Austin Pierzynski said. “I think he’s always there for me. He puts the team ahead of himself and doesn’t get a big ego where he says, ‘I know everything,’ kind of like that. He just wants to be a coach, he just genuinely really wants to help the kids.”
