LONGWOOD, Fla. – It’s D-C to D.C. as Dylan Crews was the No. 2 overall pick by the Washington Nationals in the 2023 MLB Draft.
Crews, a native to Longwood and graduate of Lake Mary High School, hosted a watch party Sunday night in Longwood with friends and family as he heard his name called by MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred.
“It’s such a great feeling,” Crews said at his draft party. “I’ve worked so hard for this moment right now; I’m so thankful. I can’t thank my parents enough. I can’t thank God enough. I can’t thank the coaches that have all helped me out and get me to this point. I’m just very thankful. I wouldn’t be here without them.”
Crews is also coming off winning the 2023 NCAA National Championship with the LSU Tigers. His career stats for the Tigers include a .380 batting average, 58 home runs and 184 RBI. He also won the 2023 Golden Spikes Award given to the best amateur baseball player in the nation.

“Wow, this is cool; D-C to D.C.,” George Crews said, father to Dylan. “Representing Lake Mary and Seminole County and Lake Mary High School and...we’re going to Washington and going to be a National.”
The Washington Nationals won their last World Series in 2019. But Dylan said he’s eager to be a part of another championship team.
“I’m ready to grow with them,” Crews said. “I’m going to go in and be the same player that I have always been. [I’m] just ready to constantly learn and grow and hopefully bring a World Series to this organization.”
