Edgewater High football team prepares to play exhibition game in England

Eagles will play the NFL Academy in England

ORLANDO, Fla. – A never-before-seen game is set to take place on August 15th with the Edgewater High School football team traveling to England to play the NFL Academy team.

This will be the first time a public school plays the NFL Academy in England.

“We’re excited to represent the brand of this city, our county, and our state, even our country,” head coach Cameron Duke said.

The trip was sponsored by the following: EA Sports, Florida Citrus Sports, AdventHealth, Greater Orlando Sports Commission, McCoy Federal Credit Union and Florida Blue Foundation. Fundraising is still ongoing for additional expenses for the trip.

As the team preps to travel across the Atlantic, running back Joshua Perry told News 6 that the word “excited” doesn’t really describe this.

“It’s a different feeling,” Perry said. ”The history of Edgewater is just great, and we’re going to go over there and really show what Orlando football is really about.”

Offensive lineman Jaden Wilkerson can’t wait to head to Europe.

“Everyone is ready,” Wilkerson said. “The whole team is ready, ready to go show them what we can do. Energy has been crazy in practice.”

The team leaves on August 9th and return on August 16th. Edgewater plays the first game of the 2024 season on Friday, Aug. 23, against Wekiva.
