BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. Brevard County small businesses and nonprofit organizations will be eligible to apply for grants of up to $10,000 apiece to offset some of their expenses and lost revenue related to the coronavirus pandemic, News 6 partner Florida Today reported. The grant program with a total budget of $10 million was approved Tuesday by the Brevard County Commission. Money for the grants will come from Brevard County's $105.03 million federal allocation from the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act. With a maximum of $10,000 per grant, the $10 million would help at least 1,000 small businesses and nonprofits. Commissioner Curt Smith said that its really critical that we get the money out there to small businesses.

Lober's proposal will be considered by the County Commission during a special meeting that begins at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Brevard County Government Center in Viera. Lober said the five-member County Commission which is all-Republican should avoid having his proposal become entwined in politics. Lober said he made his decision to push for a mask policy after speaking with emergency medicine physicians. Lober generally wears a face mask when out in a public setting, except during County Commission meetings, at which the commissioners are socially distanced from one another. Members of the public can watch the meeting and deliver public comment via videoconferencing from the County Commission chambers on the first floor.

Brevard County has won the bid to host the 2020 Amateur Athletic Union Junior Olympic Games later this summer, News 6 partner Florida Today reports. The 2020 Junior Olympics also will include the first-ever Presidential Youth Fitness Program event as part of the games. Ron DeSantis will make the formal announcement about Brevard County hosting the Junior Olympics. This will be the 54th AAU Junior Olympics, and the second time the Junior Olympics will be held on the Space Coast, the first being in 1994. In all, 32 communities throughout the country have hosted the Junior Olympics since its inception in 1967.
