Biden lifts Trump-era ban blocking legal immigration to US
Read full article: Biden lifts Trump-era ban blocking legal immigration to USBiden stated in his proclamation Wednesday that shutting the door on legal immigrants โdoes not advance the interests of the United States." โTo the contrary, it harms the United States, including by preventing certain family members of United States citizens and lawful permanent residents from joining their families here. It also harms industries in the United States that utilize talent from around the world," Biden stated in his proclamation. Immigration lawyers said they were surprised Biden did not immediately lift the freeze like he did with Trump's travel ban imposed against people from mostly Muslim-majority countries. As a result, some immigrants blocked by the travel ban found they still could not come to the United States because of the freeze.

The U.S. has not participated in a meeting of those participants since Trump withdrew from the deal and began steadily ramping up sanctions on Iran. The Trump administration had imposed the severe restrictions, which essentially confined them to their U.N. mission and the U.N. headquarters building in New York. โIt is concerning the Biden Administration is already making concessions in an apparent attempt to re-enter the flawed Iran deal," he said. In Iran, President Hassan Rouhani expressed hope Thursday that the Biden administration will rejoin the accord and lift the U.S. sanctions that Washington re-imposed under Trump, according to state television.

Seats for reporters at recent White House events had been placed 6 feet apart to protect against the spread of the coronavirus. The decision needlessly put reporters' health at risk, said Jonathan Karl of ABC News, president of the White House Correspondents' Association. White House spokesman Judd Deere said it was his decision to move the seats closer together. There was no reason to put them together, except so that President Trump could telegraph a false message.
