Five years ago, about 500 players participated in the inaugural campaign, marking the first time players could wear custom cleats during games without facing fines. Some players whose teams were on the road last week can wear their cleats at home this weekend. “You can just go out there and wear custom cleats on the field and really show off what you’ve been working so hard for in the offseason,” Chubb said. “Season after season I am inspired by the growing number of NFL players that participate in ‘My Cause My Cleats’ and the causes they represent,” Commissioner Roger Goodell said.

The no-nonsense Williams has made a career of being an aggressive play caller on defense, but the Jets have struggled this year while ranking 29th in total defense and 30th in scoring defense. But the Jets' defense had mostly done its job Sunday, including a fourth-down stop with 1:37 left.

The Jets also are sending a 2022 seventh-round draft pick to the Steelers for Pittsburgh's 2022 fifth-rounder. Bell signed a few days later with Kansas City and ran for 7 yards on six carries against his former team Sunday.

An 0-2 start with dismal performances in both games has the New York Jets in an early season hole. “Nobody said anything during the week,” Gase said Wednesday. Many fans and some media pointed the blame at Gase for not overseeing better, sharper practices, although coordinator Gregg Williams is responsible for the defense. “Yeah, I mean everybody has a different feel of how practice goes,” Gase said. “We, as players, have to come out there and execute.”NOTES: The Jets signed S Marqui Christian to the active roster from Chicago's practice squad.
