ORLANDO, Fla – Walt Disney World announced Thursday that it will begin pivoting to a new way of giving out virtual boarding groups to its popular attraction, Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance. Beginning Nov. 3, Disney said guests with a Hollywood Studios reservation will be given the chance to board a virtual queue beginning at 7 a.m. from outside of their resort hotel, or wherever else nearby they could be at that time. Guests flee First Order Stormtroopers onboard a Star Destroyer as part of Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, the groundbreaking new attraction opening Dec. 5, 2019, inside Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Florida and Jan. 17, 2020, at Disneyland Park in California. The immersive attraction opened in 2019 and has only been operating under the virtual queue system. Virtual queue boarding passes can be acquired through the My Disney Experience App.

ORLANDO, Fla Walt Disney World is set to adjust the way guests get the opportunity to ride the newest Star Wars attraction, Rise of the Resistance, at Disneys Hollywood Studios. Beginning Friday, Disney said guests will have the opportunity to join the rides virtual queue at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Since that time, the ride reservation system has been hit with some criticism about guests not being able to get on the ride at all. Disney said reservations will still be limited each day and guests can access a boarding group time through the virtual queue reservation system. ORLANDO, Fla. Ten days after reopening after a COVID-19 shutdown, Walt Disney World is being forced to clamp down on its mask rules. When Disney World in Orlando reopened on July 11, visitors were required to wear masks at all times, except when taking a sip of their drinking and snacking. But it seems too many guests were multi-tasking and walking around the theme parks while eating and drinking without masks. On Monday, Disney clarified its policy. Now the park requires guests to stay in one place while eating and maintain appropriate physical distancing.

Thursday is also the same day some annual passholders can go to Animal Kingdom and Magic Kingdom. ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. Mickeys Not-So-Scary Halloween Party at Disney World will not take place in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic, Disney posted online on Thursday. Disney World theme parks are set to open on July 11. The Magic Kingdom and the Animal Kingdom will open on July 11 and Epcot and Hollywood Studios will open on July 15. The theme parks have been closed since the middle of March. A decision on this years Mickeys Very Merry Christmas Party and the EPCOT Candlelight processional has not been made at this time, according to Disney.

Disney will officially begin the final holiday season for the Osborne Lights Friday at Hollywood Studios. Millions of dancing lights have delighted thousands over the past 20 years. The Osborne Lights will run from Nov. 6 until Jan. 3.

Walt Disney World on Friday announced that its massive holiday light display -- The Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights -- will not continue after this year. The finale for the Osborne lights will run from November 6 to January 3. It will be the 20th season for the display, which first appeared on Residential Street, a row of home facades in the park's original backlot. "Frozen Summer Live" -- a character-driven procession down the park's Hollywood Boulevard with Anna, Elsa and Kristoff -- will run through Sept. 1, each day at 11 a.m. There's also a new sing-along show, a dance party, "Frozen"-themed fireworks, a polar playground, ice skating rink and ice carving demonstrations. "Frozen" tells the story of how Anna and Elsa overcome Elsa's terrible power to turn everything into ice and snow. The park is offering a VIP package deal for Frozen fun at $59 for adults and $34 for kids on top of regular park admission. The deal includes reserved viewing for special events and a VIP dessert party before the fireworks.

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. – A car crashed into a beam Tuesday afternoon during Disney's Hollywood Studios' Lights Motors Action stunt car show. The car was supposed to jump and land safely but instead it struck a beam and crashed. The driver of the stunt car was not injured. A witness sent a photo of the damaged car to Local 6.

ORLANDO, Fla. – The American Idol Experience at Disney's Hollywood Studios is closing. The show, which debuted at Walt Disney World in 2009, includes a host and three judges who give feedback to the contestants. "We are incredibly proud of the more than 2,000 Dream Tickets that have given guests a chance to live their very own Cinderella story and audition for American Idol." Disney said three of the top 13 contestants on the TV show were originally discovered through the American Idol Experience. "We expect the attraction to continue providing top contestants for American Idol XIV in the coming year," the statement said.

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. – An Orange County sheriff's deputy has been relieved of duty after he was arrested on allegations of stealing from Walt Disney World guests. Deputy Kirk Smurawa, 40, who's been with the Orange County Sheriff's Office since 2002 and is a former Marine, was arrested Tuesday and charged with armed burglary of a conveyance and petit theft of $100 or more. "We got information and that caused him to come into suspicion," said Orange County Sheriff Jerry Demings. According to the Orange County Sheriff's Office, Smurawa, who was on duty, took a purse from a 2010 Chrysler Town & Country rental vehicle that was parked at Hollywood Studios. Smurawa was assigned to the Orange County Sheriff Sector Six patrol.
