Yet two months after street violence shook Kenosha, far more businesses have taken their plywood down. Kyle Rittenhouse, a white 17-year-old who came to Kenosha that day with a semiautomatic rifle, is charged in the shootings. He was among a number of armed white men who came to Kenosha, saying they wanted to protect property during the unrest. Trump won Kenosha County in the 2016 elections by fewer than 300 votes, while the city of Kenosha went solidly for Hillary Clinton. “I’m always going to be concerned about violence,” said Andy Berg, a member of the Kenosha County board of supervisors.

In his afternoon ruling that rejected Kyle Rittenhouse’s bid to remain in Illinois, Judge Paul Novak noted that defense attorneys had characterized the Wisconsin charges as politically motivated. “This Illinois court shall not examine any potential political impact a Wisconsin District Attorney potentially considered in his charging decision,” Novak’s six-page ruling said. The ruling and speedy transfer came several hours after a hearing Friday morning in which Judge Novak heard arguments for and against extradition. Without witnesses from either side, the part of Friday's hearing meant for evidence and testimony lasted less than 30 seconds, when Scheller handed the judge Illinois Gov. The newspaper also said Rittenhouse told police the rifle used in the shooting was in the trunk of a friend's car.

In court records filed late Thursday, Rittenhouse's attorneys argued that he was acting in self-defense and extraditing him to Wisconsin authorities would violate his constitutional rights. They also argue that Wisconsin prosecutors and Illinois authorities didn’t follow legal technicalities required for extradition. Legal experts had questioned what basis Rittenhouse's attorneys could use to fight his extradition, which is usually an uncontested step. According to prosecutors and court documents, Rittenhouse shot and killed 36-year-old Joseph Rosenbaum, of Kenosha, after Rosenbaum threw a plastic bag at Rittenhouse, missing him, and tried to wrestle his rifle away. Rittenhouse’s extradition would not be an issue if he had been arrested in Kenosha the night of the shootings.

Instead, he said the violence is a left-wing" problem and he told one far-right extremist group to stand back and stand by. His comments Tuesday night were in response to debate moderator Chris Wallace asking if he would condemn white supremacists and militia groups. Trump's exchange with Democrat Joe Biden left the extremist group Proud Boys celebrating what some of its members saw as tacit approval. “Proud Boys,” Democrat Joe Biden chimed in, referencing a far-right extremist group that has shown up at protests in the Pacific Northwest. “Proud Boys, stand back and stand by,” Trump said.

The shooting of Blake on Aug. 23 by a white Kenosha police officer made Wisconsin the epicenter of the nation’s ongoing debate over police violence and racial injustice. It will then be up to Gravely about whether to file charges. The officer, Rusten Sheskey, shot Blake after Blake opened an SUV’s driver-side door and leaned into the vehicle. Crump has called for the arrest of Sheskey, the officer who shot Blake, and for the two other officers involved in the shooting to be fired. Union attorney Brendan Matthews said officers were aware that Blake had an open warrant for felony sexual assault before they arrived.

Everyone is putting Black Lives Matter on the street, Black Lives Matter in their windows," she said. "That changes nothing for me because next week theyll murder me on your Black Lives Matter decorated street.I mean, its cute, youve tried -- thank you!

MILWAUKEE Jacob Blake has spoken publicly for the first time since a Kenosha, Wisconsin, police officer shot him seven times in the back, saying he's in constant pain from the shooting, which doctors fear will leave him paralyzed from the waist down. The officer, Rusten Sheskey, opened fire after Blake opened his own SUV's driver-side door and leaned into the vehicle. Blake appeared remotely via video conference from his Milwaukee hospital bed, wearing a dress shirt and tie. The man who made the widely seen cellphone video of the shooting, 22-year-old Raysean White, said he saw Blake scuffling with three officers and heard them yell, Drop the knife! The Kenosha police union said Blake had the knife and refused orders to drop it.

MADISON, Wis. Democratic vice presidential candidate Kamala Harris is scheduled to make her first campaign appearance in battleground Wisconsin on Labor Day in Milwaukee, while Vice President Mike Pence was headed to western Wisconsin. The dual appearances by Pence and Harris come just days after President Donald Trump and former Vice President Joe Biden were in Kenosha two days apart. Wisconsin is one of a few swing states that Trump won by less than a percentage point in 2016. The Biden campaign did not immediately release details Friday about the visit from Harris, a U.S. senator from California. Pence was last in Wisconsin on Aug. 19 when he toured Tanckcraft in Darien.

Kenosha police updated arrest figures Thursday, saying of the 252 people arrested, 132 did not live in Kenosha County. Four people arrested filed a federal civil rights lawsuit Wednesday, alleging that police were not arresting pro-police demonstrators like Rittenhouse who were breaking a curfew, while targeting others. The police said damage to city property was about $2 million and damage to county property was about $385,000.

Trump did not meet with members of Jacob Blakes family. Trump has also not publicly condemned 17-year-old Kyle Rittenhouse, charged with fatally shooting two demonstrators last week. Trump implied that Rittenhouse only shot the men after he tripped and they attacked him, even though the first fatal shooting happened before Rittenhouse ran away and fell. Kaul says, When you make excuses for people who are involved in that kind of violence, whether its vigilante violence or white supremacist violence or any other kind of violence or destruction, we need clear condemnations of that from our leaders.

The move came a day after the curfew was targeted as unconstitutional in a federal lawsuit and the day before former Vice President Joe Biden planned to visit, marking his first campaign stop in Wisconsin in nearly two years. The curfew was enacted after Blake, a Black man, was shot by a police officer on Aug. 23. Biden also plans to meet with members of Blake's family, something Trump did not do, and hold a community meeting. I just appreciate President Trump coming today, everybody here does, Rode said. Trump has sought to take credit, although Evers activated them a day before Trump demanded they be used.

Offering federal resources to help rebuild the city, Trump toured a high school that had been transformed into a heavily fortified law enforcement command post. The only words acknowledging the concerns of African Americans came from a pastor who attended Trump's law enforcement roundtable. Biden said after Trump's Wisconsin visit: "The vast majority of cops are honorable, decent and real. Blakes family held a Tuesday community celebration at a distance from Trumps visit. We need justice and relief for our vibrant community.The NAACP said Tuesday neither candidate should visit the Wisconsin city as tension simmers.

Authorities have been reluctant to release even the most basic information about the incident or details about the white officer who shot Blake seven times in the back. They shot my son seven times seven times, like he didnt matter, Blakes father, Jacob Blake Sr., said. In 2014, for example, a union spokesman rushed to the scene where a white Chicago officer fatally shot 17-year-old Laquan McDonald. As for the shooting itself, authorities, citing the need to protect the integrity of the investigation, have raised far more questions than they've answered. Instead, he said a knife was found after the shooting on the drivers side floorboard of the SUV.

And there are signs some Wisconsin voters are listening, after protests have sometimes become violent in Kenosha, Wisconsin, where a white police officer shot a Black man, Jacob Blake, seven times, paralyzing him. His Democratic rival, Joe Biden, has condemned violence and focused more on the victims of police brutality. That approach has left some voters who haven't ruled out Trump hazy on where Biden stands on race and criminal justice, a vacuum quickly filled with misinformation. To win Wisconsin, Trump must run up the score in the conservative-leaning suburbs and exurbs across the state, working-class areas where trade union's allegiance to Democrats has faded and the pull of cultural issues has grown. She thinks he's trying to look out for businesses like hers and she's heard positive things about his criminal justice reform bill.

Of the 175 people arrested during protests in Kenosha since Blake was shot in the back Aug. 23, leaving the 29-year-old Black man paralyzed, 102 have addresses outside of Kenosha, including 44 different cities, police said in a statement Sunday night. Protesters have marched in Kenosha every night since Blakes shooting, with some protests devolving into violence that has damaged buildings and vehicles. City officials have identified Rusten Sheskey as the officer who shot Blake.

In his acceptance speech during the virtual Republican National Convention, Trump painted the election in hyperbolic terms as a stark choice between peaceful streets and anarchy. Trump's opponent for reelection, former Vice President Joe Biden, and his running mate, Kamala Harris, have accused Trump of rooting for violence amid unrest in Wisconsin.

WASHINGTON Facebook made a mistake in not removing a militia group's page earlier this week that called for armed civilians to enter Kenosha, Wisconsin, amid violent protests after police shot Jacob Blake, CEO Mark Zuckerberg says. The page for the Kenosha Guard violated Facebook's policies and had been flagged by a bunch of people, Zuckerberg said in a video posted Friday on Facebook. The social media giant has in recent weeks adopted new guidelines removing or restricting posts from groups that pose a threat to public safety. Facebook is now taking down posts that praise the shooting or shooter, Zuckerberg said. Zuckerberg also said the company is working on improving its execution, though he did not provide details.

By the end of the night, prosecutors say, Rittenhouse had killed two people and severely wounded a third. To some, Rittenhouse is a domestic terrorist whose very presence with a rifle incited the protesters. The commander of the force said Friday over 1,000 guard members had been deployed, and more were on the way. In the scuffle, lasting just seconds, Rittenhouse shoots a third person armed with a handgun, according to the complaint. He later turned himself in in his hometown of Antioch, Illinois, according to Kenosha Police Chief Daniel Miskinis.

Kenosha County prosecutors said in court records this week that the first person shot around 11:45 p.m. on Tuesday has been identified as Joseph Rosenbaum, 36, of Kenosha. Prosecutors said Rosenbaum followed Rittenhouse into a used car lot, where he threw a plastic bag at the gunman and attempted to take the weapon from him. Hubers friends gathered at a Kenosha skate park this week to remember him and his passion for skateboarding. They came out here every time with us," said Porche Bennett, a Kenosha resident who has organized protests. Grosskreutz is an activist who volunteered as a medic during the Kenosha demonstrations, according to Milwaukee activist Bethany Crevensten.

Jacob Blake is no longer shackled to his hospital bed, as he had been following a police shooting in southeastern Wisconsin that left him paralyzed, his attorneys said Friday. Kenosha Police Officer Rusten Sheskey shot Blake, a Black man, seven times in the back on Sunday while responding to a domestic abuse call. The governor said Blake had already paid a horrific price.Blake's attorney in the sexual assault case said Friday that Blake was no longer in restraints. The Milwaukee County Sheriff's Department said in a statement that Blake was no longer in custody because he has posted bond and deputies are no longer guarding him at the hospital.

Like other places in America, Kenosha's Black residents saw inequality in the way police treated them. But there had been nothing like the shooting that left Blake, who is Black, paralyzed. An officer shot Blake in the back Sunday as the 29-year-old leaned into his SUV, three of his children seated inside. Ray Roberts, a data scientist who has lived in the city about a decade, said he and other Black residents face very different rules when dealing with police than white residents do. The police here are terrible and they treat Black people awful, said Jacob Conway, a 22-year-old white Kenosha resident who said he has joined protests every night since the shooting.

Prosecutors on Thursday charged a 17-year-old from Illinois in the fatal shooting of two protesters and the wounding of a third in Kenosha, Wisconsin, during a night of unrest following the weekend police shooting of Jacob Blake. Gaige Grosskreutz, 26, of West Allis, about 30 miles (48 kilometers) northwest of Kenosha is recovering after surgery, said Bethany Crevensten, another activist. State authorities have identified the officer who shot Blake as Rusten Sheskey, a seven-year veteran of the Kenosha Police Department. Sheskey shot Blake while holding onto his shirt after officers unsuccessfully used a Taser on him, the Wisconsin Justice Department said. Online court records indicate Kenosha County prosecutors charged Blake on July 6 with sexual assault, trespassing and disorderly conduct in connection with domestic abuse.

Republicans decided the show must go on and, for the most part, television networks followed. The convention is taking place in the shadow of huge stories that are happening right now, CNN's Anderson Cooper said. Networks, after giving extensive coverage to the Democrats last week, are cognizant of being fair to the Republicans. The president has been showing up every night, the president could talk about it. But former Republican Sen. Rick Santorum, also a CNN contributor, said Republicans were there to try and reelect President Trump and that has to continue to remain their focus.

But the near-silence from the Kenosha department and state authorities is at odds with what an increasing number of American police forces are doing in the wake of high-profile shootings with the potential to cause unrest. Investigators havent explained why police drew guns on Blake and why the officer opened fire. Blake survived but is paralyzed, and it would take a miracle for him to walk again, family attorney Ben Crump said Tuesday. Kenosha Police Chief Daniel Miskinis said Wednesday that his department has few details about the Blake shooting because another agency the Wisconsin Department of Justice is investigating, as required by state law. The New York Police Department sends a top official to the scene of every shooting by an officer and holds a news conference within hours.

He is recovering from being shot multiple times by Kenosha police on Aug. 23. The shooting was reported at about 11:45 p.m. in an area where protests have taken place, Kenosha police Lt. Joseph Nosalik said in a news release. Earlier Tuesday, Blake's father spoke alongside other family members and lawyers, telling reporters that police shot his son seven times, seven times, like he didn't matter." Hundreds of people again defied curfew Tuesday in Kenosha, where destruction marred protests the previous night as fires were set and businesses vandalized. I really ask you and encourage everyone in Wisconsin and abroad to take a moment and examine your hearts," Blake's mother said.

This time, the town is Kenosha, Wisconsin, which has about 100,000 people and sits just south of Milwaukee. The city is now trying to quell racial tension after police were caught on camera shooting 29-year-old Jacob Blake in the back multiple times. The three officers at the scene were placed on administrative leave, standard practice in a shooting by police, while the state Justice Department investigates. Seven shots can be heard, though it isnt clear how many struck Blake or how many of the officers fired. During the shooting, a Black woman can be seen screaming in the street and jumping up and down. That man just literally grabbed him by his shirt and looked the other way and was just shooting him. We all watched the horrific video of Jacob Blake being shot in the back several times by Kenosha police," Crump said in a statement.
