Read full article: Task force recommends stricter virus measures for FloridaORLANDO, Fla. – A White House Coronavirus Task Force report for Florida recommended stricter measures for stopping the virus including mask wearing at all times in public, increased physical distancing by reducing capacity or closing indoor spaces at restaurants and bars and limiting gatherings outside of immediate households. Ron DeSantis has ruled out further business restrictions or a mask mandate aimed at stopping the virus’ spread. The White House Coronavirus Task Force is chaired by Vice President Mike Pence, and Dr. Deborah Birx serves as its response coordinator. The Orlando Sentinel began requesting the reports in October, and the governor's office provided three reports after the newspaper involved its attorneys. Among all states, Florida had the 41st most new cases per 100,000 residents and the 33rd highest rate of positive cases, according to the Dec. 6 report.

A key member of the White House Coronavirus Task Force says she wants the State of Florida to begin pool testing groups of people for the coronavirus. While in Florida, she urged the staff at the University of South Florida to begin pool testing for the virus. According to Birx, pool testing takes samples from a small group of people -- typically five or 10 people -- and they are all tested for the coronavirus together in the same sample. One way is going into neighborhoods and testing whole families into a single tube, Birx said. You can do a classroom with three tests.She said pool testing would expand testing from 5,000 people per day to 50,000 people per day in Florida.
