A bill that would decriminalize all strips used to test drugs for deadly substances now goes to West Virginia's governor.

The South Dakota House has passed a bill that would make xylazine a controlled substance.

Federal officials are calling for more testing and research on xylazine, the powerful animal sedative that’s spreading through the nation’s illicit drug supply.

The sheriff’s office in Orange County says it is seeing more of a powerful animal sedative in seized fentanyl, and is warning the public because the drug is not receptive to overdose medications.

States are increasingly looking to make a veterinary tranquilizer a controlled substance now that it's been showing up in illicit drugs used by humans and contributing to a growing number of overdose deaths.
