NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. – A 71-year-old New Smyrna Beach man traveling in the wrong lane was killed in a head-on crash late Thursday in Volusia County, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
The FHP said Ronald Luznar, whom troopers said owns Sopotnick's Cabbage Patch Bar in New Smyrna Beach, died in the wreck, which was reported at 11:40 p.m. on State Road 44 at State Road 415.
According to troopers, Luznar was driving a 2002 Ford SUV south on State Road 415 and made a left turn onto eastbound State Road 44. The FHP said Luznar drove east in the westbound lanes of SR 44 for a quarter of a mile before hitting a 2016 Ford pickup truck head-on.
Luznar died at the scene, and the driver of the pickup, a 28-year-old New Smyrna Beach man, suffered critical injuries, the FHP said.
It's not known if alcohol played a role in the crash.
