Lynx bus crashes into Lynx bus; 1 driver killed

Second Lynx bus driver taken to hospital

ORLANDO, Fla. – A driver was killed in Orlando early Friday in a crash involving two Lynx buses, police said.

The fatal wreck occurred at 5:10 a.m. on West Princeton Street near John Young Parkway.

Orlando police said a disabled Lynx bus was struck by another Lynx bus.

"The first bus just died out, and there was no reflective nothing on the bus, no hazard lights, so he walked around the bus to try and start (it), from my understanding, and the bus coming up didn't see anybody there at the last minute, and, you know, these buses don't stop on a dime and he collided with the other bus, and the guy was right behind the bus," Local 1596 president Ismael Rivera said.

One of the drivers, 59-year-old Prosper Nazaire, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police. The other was taken to a hospital, police said.

"(Friday), the Lynx family experienced an unimaginable tragedy. We are grieving one of our own as two of our buses were involved in an accident (Friday) morning killing one of our drivers," Lynx spokesman Matt Friedman said in a statement. "Lynx is cooperating with the Orlando Police Department during the ongoing investigation. We are providing grief counselors for all employees as we all grieve together."

There were not any passengers on either bus.

Princeton Street was closed from Orange Blossom Trail to John Young Parkway but was reopened about four hours later.
