FHP said the child was inside a disabled SUV on the right shoulder before she got out of the vehicle and wandered onto the roadway where she was hit by a car.

The driver and passenger of an Audi that hit the child immediately stopped and attempted to render aid, FHP said.

The child was in critical condition at the scene but died at a local hospital, FHP said.

No other details were immediately released by officials.
