The FHP said the man was riding a bike north on the southbound shoulder of U.S. 1 and had a small dog on a leash running beside him.

Troopers said it’s believed that the dog ran into the road, bringing the bicyclist into the right lane, where both were struck by an oncoming Ford pickup truck.

The bicyclist was taken to Rockledge Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased, an FHP crash report stated.
