SEVILLE, Fla. – One person was killed and another was airlifted to a hospital Monday morning after a three-vehicle crash in Volusia County, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
The fatal crash happened around 8:12 a.m. on U.S. 17 at Prevatt Road in Seville.

According to a crash report, a Chevrolet Malibu being driven by a 20-year-old Seville woman, was traveling northbound on U.S. 17, approaching Prevatt Road.
At the same time, a Ford Fusion, being driven by a 48-year-old man from Crescent City, was traveling southbound on U.S. 17, approaching Prevatt Road.
A Kia Forte, being driven by a 39-year-old Satsuma woman, was also traveling southbound on U.S. 17, directly behind the Fusion, according to the FHP.
Troopers said for unknown reasons, the Malibu ran off of the road to the right, overcorrected and entered the southbound lane. As a result, the front of the Malibu crashed into the front of the Fusion.

Following the initial crash, the driver of the Forte attempted to avoid the collision and its right front collided with the back of the Fusion, according to the report.
The driver of the Malibu was pronounced dead at the scene and the driver of the Fusion was airlifted to Halifax Health Medical Center, troopers said.
According to the FHP, the driver of the Forte was not injured.
Troopers said the crash remains under investigation.
