Sergeant suffered non-life-threatening injuries, deputies say

POLK COUNTY, Fla. – A Bartow police sergeant suffered non-life-threatening injuries after being struck by a vehicle while responding to a call on Sunday evening, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said the crash happened at 1050 Van Fleet Drive East in Bartow, which in front of a Walmart.

According to a news release, a minivan struck the police sergeant around 7:10 p.m. and the victim “suffered non-life-threatening injuries from the collision, but was transported by ambulance to a local hospital as a trauma alert.”

Deputies said that Bartow police initially responded to a hit and run crash in the area, and during that investigation, the sergeant was struck by the minivan.

No other information was released about the sequence of events that led up to the officer being struck.

According to the release, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident and the scene was cleared at 9:19 p.m.
