According to an FHP crash report, the Interlachen man was walking southbound in the middle of the northbound lane as the pickup truck — driven by a 19-year-old Fort McCoy man — approached from the south. The Interlachen man was wearing dark clothing and the driver didn’t see him “until the last moment,” the report states.
The front of the pickup truck hit the Interlachen man, throwing him in a northeasterly direction where he came to final rest in the northbound lane, troopers said. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Marion County Fire Rescue, according to FHP.
The Fort McCoy man remained on scene, was uninjured in the crash and was wearing a seat belt, troopers said.
