VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – Two men were arrested after they reportedly carjacked a man and made away with his sports car before fleeing deputies on Tuesday afternoon, according to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said they responded to reports of the carjacking on South Thompson Street in DeLand around 3:47 p.m.

According to a news release, the victim said two masked suspects pulled up beside him while one pointed a gun and threatened to kill him. He said he was pistol-whipped before the suspects pulled him out of his black Chevrolet Corvette.

Deputies said the suspects drove away in the Corvette before being spotted by the sheriff’s office helicopter. The suspects were followed by the helicopter as the vehicle fled from deputies and DeLand police on the ground.

According to the release, the vehicle then came to a stop off of State Road 472. One of the suspects remained in the vehicle while another ran into the woods.

Deputies said both suspects were soon taken into custody along with two firearms, a black mask and gloves.

The driver, identified as 23-year-old Mikell Bailey of DeLand, faces charges of armed carjacking, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and outstanding warrants for burglary, grand theft, and witness tampering.

The second suspect, 31-year-old Britten Polk of DeLand, faces charges of possession of a firearm/ammunition by a convicted felon and violation of probation.

Both men are being held at the Volusia County Branch Jail with no bond, deputies said.
