ORLANDO, Fla. – News 6 traffic safety expert Trooper Steve Montiero answers viewer questions about the rules of the roads, helping Central Florida residents become better drivers by being better educated.
Trooper Steve on Thursday was asked by a viewer named Drew, “Regarding the 100-foot turn signal law, how would one do that if the turn lane at the intersection is less than 100 feet?”

Trooper Steve said this answer is best understood while watching the video atop this story.
“I totally understand what Drew is referring to because sometimes a turn lane can shot,” Trooper Steve said. “However, you should activate your turn signal 100 feet prior to moving into that turn lane.”
Basically, if you intend to get into a turn lane, activate your signal before going into that lane and leave your turn signal activated while in the turn lane, he explained.
Florida Statute 316.155 (2) addresses this traffic law, saying, “A signal of intention to turn right or left must be given continuously during not less than the last 100 feet traveled by the vehicle before turning.”
