Troopers said a car was traveling east on Curry Ford Road when the driver lost control of the vehicle, went into the grass median and struck the Orlando man, who was walking toward the west.
The car fled the scene, turned right onto Goldenrod Road and entered the parking lot of a Walgreens, according to troopers. The driver parked the car, checked the damage to the vehicle and drove away, the FHP said.
Cortes was taken to AdventHealth East Orlando and was pronounced dead, an FHP crash report stated.
Troopers announced Friday afternoon that they had found the 2010 Mitsubishi Galant and were processing it for evidence. They did not say if they had located the driver.
Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call FHP at 407-737-2213 or Crimeline at 800-423-TIPS.
