Man struck, killed on SR-40 in Lake County

Crash happened near Blue Creek Lodge Road

LAKE COUNTY, Fla. – A fatal crash Wednesday morning shut down State Road 40 in Lake County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The wreck happened around 4 a.m. near Blue Creek Lodge Road.

According to a crash report, a Jeep Grand Cherokee was traveling west on S.R. 40 when it approached Blue Creek Lodge Road and a 26-year-old man was standing in the middle of the road.

The driver, a 58-year-old Polk City woman, tried to swerve out of the way but struck the pedestrian, according to troopers.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene, and the driver was uninjured, the FHP said.

It’s not known why the man was standing on the road.

SR-40 was closed in both directions but later reopened.

An investigation is ongoing.
