According to an FHP crash report, a 2018 Tesla Model X had been traveling above the posted speed limit eastbound on Hickory Tree Road — west of Nursery Road — approaching a curve. The driver failed to negotiate the curve and the Tesla ran off the roadway right, causing the front of the vehicle to strike a tree, the report states.

The Tesla became engulfed in flames as a result of the crash, troopers said, adding the driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

An investigation is ongoing. The identity of the driver, so far described as a man, is pending word from the medical examiner’s office, FHP said.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
