MARION COUNTY, Fla. – Two people were hurt when a pickup truck hit a school bus Wednesday morning in Marion County, causing the bus to veer from the road and slam into a house, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred around 8 a.m. at the intersection of SW 31st Avenue Road and Marion Oaks Trail, troopers said.

According to an FHP crash report, the pickup truck was traveling southbound on SW 31st Avenue Road as the school bus traveled westbound on Marion Oaks Trail. The pickup truck failed to stop for a stop sign at the intersection, causing it to strike the right side of the school bus as both vehicles entered the intersection at the same time, the report states.

The bus continued in a southwesterly direction and struck a residence in the 12900 block of SW 31st Avenue Road as the pickup truck came to rest within the south portion of Marion Oaks Trail, shown in photos of the scene shared by FHP.

The 25-year-old Ocala woman driving the pickup truck and the 63-year-old Ocala woman driving the school bus were both wearing seat belts in the crash, each of them suffering minor injuries, troopers said.
