Driver killed when car plows into back of semi in Marion County (Marion County Fire Rescue)

MARON COUNTY, Fla. – A 27-year-old Gainesville man was killed after his vehicle crashed into a tractor-trailer that was parked on the shoulder of Interstate 75 in Marion County on Sunday afternoon, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers said the crash happened around in the southbound lanes of the interstate near mile marker 359 in Ocala around 4:05 p.m.

According to a crash report, a sedan was driving south on I-75 in the outside lane when it traveled into the outside emergency shoulder and crashed into a parked tractor trailer that was hauling pontoon boats. The vehicle was pinned under the trailer.

The driver of the sedan was pronounced dead at the scene.

An investigation is ongoing.
