POLK COUNTY, Fla. – A 17-year-old boy was killed and 15-year-old girl was badly hurt in a crash Monday afternoon, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
The crash happened southwest of Winter Haven around 3:06 p.m. on Spirit Lake Road near Rolling Oaks Drive.

According to deputies, the 17-year-old and 15-year-old were trapped inside a white 1994 Chevrolet pickup.
The truck, driven by the 17-year-old, was heading south on Spirit Lake Road when it went off the road at a curve and hit a tree.
The boy died at the scene and the girl was taken to the hospital with critical injuries.
Deputies said wet roads from rain could be a factor.
