Davenport man struck, killed by SUV in Polk County, FHP says

POLK COUNTY, Fla. – A pedestrian was fatally struck by an SUV while he walked across a road Friday night in Polk County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred around 8:43 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. 27 and Sanders Road, troopers said.

According to a preliminary FHP crash report, the pedestrian — identified as a 41-year-old Davenport man — was walking in a crosswalk when he was struck by a Nissan Rogue being driven south on U.S. 27 by a 47-year-old Winter Haven man. The SUV had a green light and the Davenport man was described as “improperly walking across the highway,” the report states.

The Davenport man died at the scene of the crash, troopers said.

No other details were shared or confirmed at the time of this report.
