ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – A 45-year-old Orlando man trying to cross Orange Blossom Trail on an electric scooter was struck by a motorcycle and killed early Thursday in Orange County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred around 1:47 a.m. along southbound Orange Blossom Trail, approaching La Quinta Drive, troopers said.

According to an FHP crash report, the Orlando man was riding the scooter eastbound across Orange Blossom Trail — not in a marked crosswalk — when he entered the direct path of a motorcycle being driven south by a 42-year-old Ocala man. The front of the motorcycle struck the Orlando man, causing the Ocala man to be thrown off the bike, the report states, adding the motorcyclist wasn’t wearing a helmet.

The Orlando man was pronounced dead at the scene while the Ocala man was hospitalized for treatment of critical injuries, described as stable at last check, troopers said.

FHP is still investigating.
